Welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!
Today’s all about the books I’m just no longer interested in reading. This was a tough one for me because I don’t like to say never. Who knows, I might change my mind and still want to read these later… But for now, I’m scratching them off my TBR.
Note: this is just a personal opinion. If any of these are your favorites, I’m sorry. You can always (kindly) let me know if you think I should keep them on my TBR though 🙂
The ‘I liked their prequels, but I have had enough and don’t care about the sequel/novella/spin-off’ ones
After You by Jojo Moyes
I liked Me Before You, but do I really need more? I have After You on my shelf, but I’ve also had enough of this story.
Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken
I liked Passenger and was excited for the sequel… but as time went by I kind of forgot why?
THE Heir and The Crown by Keira Cass
The original trilogy was a fun bit of fluff. But I don’t care about more, especially given the bad reviews.
Untamed by A.G. HOward
Though I loved the Splintered trilogy and wanted more Morpheus, I guess time has just lessened my interest to zero.
A Book of Spirits and Thieves by Morgan Rhodes
Love the Falling Kingdoms series, but this spin-off series has for some reason never really held my interest.
Starfall by Melissa Landers
Starlight was okay. But it was enough. I don’t need more.
The ‘Ehhh I’ll just watch the tv show’ ones
The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
I read and liked Outlander and it took me about three weeks. And then I watched the first season and it was a really good adaptation. So I kind of don’t want to spend more weeks reading these books when I have the tv show.
THE 100 by Kass Morgan
I LOVE THE 100! But the original books never had really great reviews, so I’ll just stick to my tv show after all.
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin
Please don’t judge me. I know it’s terrible for a fantasy lover not to even read these books. I have them all on my shelves and have wanted to start them for ages. But I also really love the tv-show and do I really want to read these now when I may need to wait ages still for the next book? Maybe in a few years, when the tv show has left my memory, I’ll get to these.
The ‘I’m still contemplating but REALLY IT CAN GO EITHER WAY’ ones
The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry
I have this on my shelf, but have lost interest. That’s really all.
Shadowsong by S. Jae-Jones
I liked but didn’t LOVE Wintersong. Still doubting about the sequel… Anyone read it already? Let me know if you think I should still read it.
Given to the Sea by Mindy McGinnis
I got this book in a Fairyloot box but have always felt a bit ‘meh’ about the plot so I just don’t know…
Starfall didn’t add much, frankly. I liked Starflight a LOT more. And The 100 – I love the show but have no real desire to read the books, since I’ve heard they’re pretty iffy. Given to the Sea is one I go back and forth on as to whether I want to read it…
I did read some negative reviews about Starfall, all disappointed that Starflight was so much better, so I think it’s indeed not a book I’ll be trying. The 100 TV show is amazing so I’ll stick to that 🙂 And yes, Given To The Sea has some good reviews, but the plot doesn’t really interest me so… maybe someday.
I liked The Love That Split The World but it definitely has mixed reviews. You’re definitely not missing much with After You. I think one book was enough but I’ll still try Still Me.
Yes, the mixed reviews are kind of what’s keeping me from reading The Love That Split The World. I am interested to hear what you’ll think off Still Me though 🙂
Yeay you aren’t missing anything with the 100 books (one of my few 1 star reads). The tv show went their own way and did what the books should have done.
Ok good to know I’m not making a terrible mistake not reading these books 🙂 I love the show, so no need to read them at all if they don’t add anything.
I also feel that way about the Outlander series… it’s just SO LONG to read! A lot of people say I would really enjoy it, though, so it’s a bit of a dilemma haha 🙂 Great list!
Haha yes, exactly! I did quite enjoy book one, so I think I could enjoy the rest of the series as well, but they take AGES to read and if I’m honest with myself I know I’ll just procrastinate reading them forever because of that 🙂
Your categories made me smile but also — so good! And, yes, Game of Thrones. No interest in the books — and only mildly curious about the show as in I just wanna see who gets the throne *shrugs*
Haha yes, I’m pretty invested in the tv show, but really it’s all about who will end up on the throne 😀
I know exactly what you mean about ‘After You’. When I read ‘Me Before You’ I never even realised there would be a series, it didn’t feel necessary and so I don’t think I will ever read the second book (am I right in thinking there is now a third too?!)
I’ve read all of the Game of Thrones books but my patience with G. R. R. Martin at waiting for the next one is at a very low point after the book being delayed for around 4 years! I think I’ll be sticking to the show too.
Here’s my TTT.
Yes, I heard there was gonna be a third book in the Me Before You “series”, and as much as I liked Me Before You, I just really have no need for more…
I heard about the massive wait for the next Game of Thrones book and I just decided not to read them yet. Maybe one day, when all books are out and the show has long since finished 🙂
Outlander has such a great adaptation! And I’ve heard The 100 is dreadful in book form? I’m tempted just to see for myself…
Yes, I only saw season 1 of Outlander but I really loved it! And I heard so many terrible things about the 100 books, I think I’ll just stick to my beloved tv show 🙂
I fully agree about The Heir. I made myself read The One because I wanted to know how America’s story would end but I also don’t care about more than that. I’m currently reading Outlander #4. These books take me months to read so sometimes it’s hard to continue them, but I will! xD
Yes, I totally agree! I also just wanted to wrap up America’s story and now I have had enough. Ahh, maybe one day I’ll pick up Outlander again, but if I’m honest with myself, I know it won’t be anytime soon 🙂
So much yes to this! I have no desire to read After You; I don’t think a sequel and now a third book were needed. I really enjoyed The Selection series but also have no desire to read the books about the daughter.
Outlander is funny – I’ve really enjoyed the books, but couldn’t get into the TV show!
Yes, exactly! Glad to hear you feel the same way! Funny about Outlander though 😉 I liked the first book, but found the tv show easier to get into somehow…
I have a really hard time saying never to a book on my tbr list too! I feel like I just need to be in the right mood and then I’ll read it. I like your list. I’ve watched Game of Thrones as well and I’d like to read the books someday but haven’t round the time yet. I’ve heard good things about Outlander, but haven’t read or watched it yet. Just another book to add to my list! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
yes, so true! Who knows, maybe in a few months I’ll be in the mood for one of these?
Given to the Sea is totally on my list this week too!! I like Mindy McGinnis, but I just don’t think that I’m interested in Sea magic stuff.
Exactly! The story just doesn’t really appeal to me…
I haven’t read Shadowsong but I’ve read a couple reviews on it and they all say it’s just as good as the first? The series is only two books, so it might be worth a shot on finishing it up since there won’t be a million more books to get to 🙂
I hear you on the later ‘Selection’ novels though. I just started the series and I like it so far, but I’ve heard such dull things about the later books I think I’ll just stick to the main arc and give the others a pass.
Oh maybe I do need to give Shadowsong a try then! Yes I also only heard bad things about the later Selection books, so I decided to just no bother with them.
I haven’t read any of these. But yes, I wanted to read Outlander and GoT series and Selection series at some point. I am not sure though when that time will come 😛 I am totally with you on watching the TV series instead for Outlander and GoT 😀 After all, the books are too long and I am kind of afraid of big series? 😛
My TTT: http://flippingthruthepages.com/2018/02/ten-books-want-read-beautiful-covers-featuring-black-women/
I feel the same way about big series! So I’m sticking to the tv show for now too haha 🙂
I agree about Me Before You… I don’t need any more of that story… I don’t know many more of these books… though I agree with you about watching the tv shows… 🙂
Yes, I liked Me Before You enough, but I don’t need more 🙂
Outlander made my list this week too. I also agree about The 100 series. I don’t think I’ve ever read a good review about that series so I plan to just stick to the show since I know I love that. It needs to hurry up and come back too, lol.
Yes, exactly! I’ll be sticking to the show as well, and yes, it needs to come back ASAP 🙂
When it comes to books, saying “no, sorry, you’re out” it’s very hard for me too. Who knows? Maybe I want to read certain book in ten years, so I still keep it on my growing TBR list – yeah, even if I have 50 books I’m way more interested in. But sometimes this is necessary 🙂
I have most of your picks on my TBR, except for Diana Gabaldon’s books, which used to be there, until I said “nah, not interested”. I don’t know, the TV show looks more appealing to me than the books – plus, I really like Sam Heughan ahaha
I’m still keeping the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series on my TBR, but I hear you, Lindsey! The TV show is everything these days, I’m really into it, and with the final season so close… I don’t really care about the books 🙂 Not to mention the fact that we don’t even know when the author might finish the next one. Sorry for now, dear big books ahahaha
I totally understand! I definitely don’t like to say NEVER to any of these books either. Who knows when I could be in the mood for them? But at least, not right now 🙂
Yes, I feel the same way about Outlander! And Sam Heughan is a great advantage to the tv show indeed 😉
A Song of Ice and Fire is not for right now for me, but maybe when the tv show is over and all books are out… I’d reconsider giving them a try.
I think I’m more of a mood reader so if something doesn’t quite appeal to me now, it might later. So I guess I may never give it up if I wanted to read it at least one time in my life. 🙂
Yeah, I definitely don’t like to say NEVER to any of these books either. Who knows when I could be in the mood for them?
I suppose if we forget about a follow up book, that’s kind of an indicator it might not be a book worth picking up. I’ll confess, I’m still excited about finishing the ‘Selection’ series… and depending on whether or not I “like” ME BEFORE YOU (or whether or not I like it well enough), I may pick up its sequel. Time will tell. ?
I do hope you’ll enjoy the rest of The Selection series! And who knows, I may still change my mind and pick them up anyway 🙂
