Monthly Wrap Up

September 2018: The Month Of Mages, The Good Place & Stray Kids {Monthly Wrap Up}

September 2018

Hi everybody, and welcome to my September wrap up!

September has been pretty hectic, which is why I barely read anything. I’ve been reading Mirage for like 3 weeks already, I just keep falling asleep after 2 pages (which has absolutely nothing to do with the book and everything to do with my exhaustion.)

We got the keys to our house, which means renovations have started. We’re doing quite a lot ourselves, so it is a LOT of work and though we were hoping to be finished and able to move in by December, it’s looking more like it’ll be February… or later still. Which sucks. Also, my mom has been having some health issues and is currently hospitalized (she should hopefully be able to go home end of the week though), so I’ve been running from our current home to our future home to the hospital and back constantly and I am exhausted.

I hope things settle back into a routine soon, but in the meantime please be patient with me while blogposts are sporadic and comment replies are SLOW.

Anyway, here’s my September wrap up!

What I Read

Running With Lions by Julian Winters Three Mages and a Margarita by Annette Marie

Running With Lions by Julian Winters

There are a few things that’ll make me pick up a sports related book, and I’m happy to say that Running With Lions delivered on each of these: adorable romance, realistic friendships, lots of diversity and music love. Though this book was not without its flaws, I fell in love with these characters and felt so many emotions while reading this. It was a strong debut and you can bet I’ll pick up whatever Julian Winters writes next, even if it’s again about soccer!

Three Mages and a Margarita by Annette Marie

You all probably know by now how big of an Annette Marie fangirl I am. So you can imagine how excited I was to hear I was chosen to be a part of the blog tour for her latest book, Three Mages and a Margarita! I was sent the ARC for review, which you’ll be able to check out on this blog on October 15th. I’ll spill all my feelings then, but here’s a sneak peak: I LOVED IT!

What I listened to

Honestly, I didn’t listen to a lot of new music this month. I’ve just had the latest Stray Kids album on repeat all day, every day. It’s safe to say I’ve found a new k-pop band to stan 🙂

SOME OF MY FAVES THIS MONTH:

Stray Kids – M.I.A.

M.I.A. is a slower song about mental illness in which the members are singing to themselves. I had to warm up to this song, but now I love the song, video and message so much.

Stray Kids – Awkward Silence

Though Stray Kids have more of a dark concept overall, they can still be silly and their extra personalities come out nicely in the fun Awkward Silence. I love the fun choreo!

What I Watched

TV

The Good Place Meteor Garden

THe Good Place

I’ve been hesitant about starting this show for the longest time, but OMG I SHOULD HAVE STARTED THIS EARLIER BECAUSE IT IS HILARIOUS! The humor is so dry, sarcastic and witty and I am living for it. I fell in love with these characters and their relationships so much. I finished two seasons this month and can’t wait to start season 3. But also, I’m trying to wait a bit so I can binge it, because this is one of those shows where one episode just isn’t enough.

Meteor Garden

Meteor Garden is basically the Chinese version of Boys Over Flowers, of which I watched the kdrama version just a few months ago, but I was craving some drama, fun and fluff and that is what I got, even if I already know all the plotlines 🙂 I thought I’d finish it sooner though, because I’m used to my 20-episode kdramas, but turns out there are about 40 episodes so I’m only about halfway. I like this version, though I can’t say if I like it more or less than the Korean version. Though the major plotlines are the same, there are some small differences here and there, some of which I like and others I don’t, so let’s just agree I like both versions so far!

Movies

Ready Player One Sierra Burgess Is A Loser

Ready Player ONe

I was supposed to read the book before watching the movie, but I caved and watched the movie first and I ended up loving it! This was such a fun, action-filled adventure with fun 80’s references and both humor and heart. Since I have not yet read the book, I can’t compare it, but I’m definitely still planning on picking it up!

Sierra Burgess Is A Loser

This movie was one of my most anticipated movie releases of the year, because it sounded like a fun, body positive romance with girl friendships and of course, Noah Centineo. And I really liked it at first. After a first watch I had mostly positive feelings about it, even if the ending felt a little off to me. But after mulling it over for a bit, I did have some very big issues with it. The catfishing was romanticised, but it was actually disturbing, Sierra acted like a jerk to Veronica at the end, and her behavior was excused way too easily. This could have been an amazing movie, but ended up severely lacking. On the bright side, Noah Centineo was amazing. Guess I’ll just have to watch To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. Again.

Life update

Things that made me happy this month:

  • We got the key to our house! It’s finally ours, though renovations are shaping up to take quite a while…

THINGS I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

  • Uhh, hello, OCTOBER IS MY FAVORITE MONTH SO YAY!
  • HALLOWEEN! (Also known as my birthday, shhh 😉 )
  • Stray Kids comeback. Seriously, didn’t they just have a comeback, like 2 months ago? Us kpop fans are soooo spoiled.
  • SO. MANY. AMAZING. BOOK. RELEASES. The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee, Shadow of the Fow by Julie Kagawa, What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera and Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas, woop woop.
  • Is it just me, or are you guys also getting excited for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina TV show? I’m not usually one for horror, but it seems like a fun Halloween watch.
HOW WAS YOUR September? WHAT DID YOU READ? WHAT DID YOU LISTEN TO AND WHAT DID YOU WATCH? AND WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR October?

  1. Oh no I’m sorry to hear about your mom. Fingers crossed she can come home soon. I hope October will be less stressful for you. We did everything in our own house too and it is still an ongoing thing even though we’ve lived here for 7 years already haha. It just never ends.

  2. Good luck with the renovations! I hope your mom feels better soon. I’m excited for October book releases, too. All of the hyped books seem to be coming out this month. Have a great October!

  8. Wow it does sound like you have a lot on your plate. That’s super stressful, shame Lindsey ;: I hope things smooth out soon. As exciting as the renovations must be, I can imagine it’s hard to enjoy when you’re in the thick of things!

I totally agree about Sierra Burgess. At first I didn’t think it was that bad, but the more I thought about it the more it felt wrong. It definitely messed a lot of things up.

I’ve watched 2 eps of The Good Place and just couldn’t get into it! I expected to love cos I love the writers and their other shows, but I think the premise just isn’t my thing? Don’t know 🙁 But I adore the colourful aesthetic!

    Have a great October 🙂 <3
