The Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event that was created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now hosted by Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads, and Katie at Never Not Reading. It was inspired by the 1961 classic song by Neil Sedaka and created to ignite fun bookish discussions among readers and bloggers.
So, just like the song, each month a new theme is chosen (participants will get to vote between two choices), and participating bloggers get to choose their favorite book within the theme, or the book they think best fits the theme, to talk about in a blog post on the first Monday of each month.
For today’s post, the theme and my selection are:

Favorite Book With a Surprise Ending or Twist:
The CRUEL PRINCE by Holly Black
Check out The Cruel Prince on Goodreads
Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.
For this month’s topic, two books actually came to mind and turns out they’re both books in the same series! I wanted to go for The Wicked King by Holly Black, which is the sequel to The Cruel Prince, and which has a surprise ending I actually liked more, but the blurb for that book already spoils the ending of book one, so I didn’t want to accidentally spoil anyone by featuring it today. Rest assured, the ending to The Cruel Prince is still plenty unexpected, shocking and will have you wanting to read more!
Good choice! I still need to read book 2.
I loved book 2 even more than book 1 so hope you’ll enjoy when you get to it 🙂

The Cruel Prince would probably be my choice as well, although Descendant of the Crane, which I just finished, caught me by surprise with its ending as well.
Oh I hope to read Descendant of the Crane soon!
First of all, I’ve never noticed that bright green beetle on the cover before. Has it always been there? Second, AMAZING CHOICE! I’m only surprised that you’re the only one who picked it!
Haha yeah the beetle’s a nice touch! 🙂
Just read this one a couple of months ago – nice twists!
Definitely!
