Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl
Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday!
Today is all about WHY we pick up certain books. And honestly, I could say because someone I trust recommended it to me or because I read the blurb and it sounds nice or because of a pretty cover. But mostly, the reason why is VERY SIMPLE and can be boiled down to a few words. So I checked a few of the most recent books I read and specified the exact reason or wording why I decided to pick them up. And turns out, I’m a simple woman with simple, predictable tastes. (and what-do-you-know, enemies-to-lovers is a pretty recurrent theme. Nobody saw that coming.)
Here they are:
Of Curses and Kisses by Sandhya Menon: Contemporary Beauty and the Beast retelling
Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales: Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda meets Grease
Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: Found family of misfits. In space.
The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa: Enemies-to-lovers
The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller: Slytherin romance, enemies-to-lovers
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas: Sarah J. Maas
Seven Deadly Shadows by Courtney Alameda and Valynne E. Maetani: Kitsunes and shinigami
Tweet Cute by Emma Lord: Pen pal romance over Twitter and enemies-to-lovers
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo: Leigh Bardugo
The A.I. Who Loved Me by Alyssa Cole: hot A.I. next door
Druid Vices and a Vodka by Annette Marie: Annette Marie
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin: Enemies-to-lovers
Tell Me:
What makes you pick up a book? Do we have some reasons in common?
Just got Ninth House on audible. Looking forward to hearing it.
I hope you’ll enjoy Ninth House, I listened to it on AUdible as well and loved it
Enemies to lovers or simply an author I love is enough for me to pick up a book too.
I definitely don’t need much more convincing than that, haha
Dragons. I always want dragons.
I do really need to read Of Curses and Kisses! I bought the book for that reason too.
Dragons, for sure!
I just started Of Curses and Kisses, hope it’ll live up to both our expectations
I read Ninth House last year, and we definitely picked it up for the same reason! It’s not my favourite of her books, but I’m still looking forward to Book 2. I haven’t actually read Crescent City yet, I need to get the audio because there’s no way I’m making it through 800 odd pages of a physical book-Kingdom of Ash almost killed me and I had to switch to audio halfway through!
I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the Grishaverse books, but I also really loved Ninth House and am also looking forward to the sequel. I hope you’ll love Crescent City!
Yeah, Aurora Rising does sound really good.
My TTT .
Aurora Rising was definitely a lot of fun!
Great list! My TTT is here https://bookloverssanctuary.com/2020/04/07/top-ten-tuesday-books-i-bought-because/
Thanks!
I really want to read Tweet Cute–it sounds absolutely adorable!! Hope you’re well!
Tweet Cute was definitely very adorable – hope you’ll enjoy it when you pick it up
Thanks, hope you’re doing well too!
Great list! Ninth House and Serpent & Dove are two I still need to get to, and Only Mostly Devastated sounds really cute.
Thanks, I hope you’ll enjoy Ninth House, Serpent and Dove and Only Mostly Devastated!
Enemies to lovers is definitely a trend here
I love this idea! I don’t know if I could say in a couple of words why I picked up certain books. Or maybe I could, but all be the same “hype” or “pretty cover”. Lol
Great post!
Haha it’s definitely a trend! Oh, hype and pretty cover are definitely also very valid reasons to pick up a book
Aurora Rising definitely sounds good, especially after liking what those authors did with the Illuminae series. And I’ve had the Annette Marie books rec’d a bunch of times too- they sound fun!
Yes, Aurora Rising is definitely very fun! And I need to finish the Illuminae series URGENTLY haha
I suppose in many ways my tastes are quite simple. I read a book because it intrigues me. If I don’t love the work after a few pages I’m probably never going to love it. Great list!
Here’s my TTT https://bookwormsanonymous.blog/2020/04/07/top-ten-tuesday-books-i-bought-because-i-loved-the-cover/
So true! Though I usually have trouble starting a book as it usually takes me a bit to warm up to it, so I usually give it at least 50% – if I don’t love it by then, then it’s indeed not gonna happen anymore either
I do love a good enemies to lovers story. I’m reading Only Mostly Devastated right now, and I’d like to check out Tweet Cute!
Enemies to lovers can never do wrong haha
Glad you’re enjoying Only Mostly Devastated, hope you’ll love Tweet Cute too!
That’s exactly why I want to read Tweet Cute, too!
I hope you’ll enjoy Tweet Cute!
I picked up Aurora Rising for the same reason! And I loved it <3
