WHAT IT’S ABOUT:
When things go sideways, what a girl really needs by her side is a sexy wolf shifter, a steamy incubus, and a smoldering mage. Prove me wrong.
Everyone has heard of Bloodfire Academy. It’s an elite school that takes the best of the best in the supernatural world. The students at Bloodfire are the children of members of a secret order. Think Illuminati but for the magical world. But even more powerful.
Membership is inherited and it turns out my late mother was one of them. Who knew? Up until now, magic hasn’t really been my thing. But a girl can fake it, am I right?
There’s no faking it when I meet the sexy wolf shifter, steamy incubus, and smoldering mage. Seriously, this semester is going to be hot.
Then the attacks start. I thought I could figure out the magic part, but nobody said anything about monsters. Turns out Bloodfire Academy is more about survival than GPA.
Publisher’s Note: Cursed Magic is a full length, steamy, new adult paranormal academy romance where the heroine doesn’t have to choose. This is book one of three in the Bloodfire Academy series.
MY THOUGHTS (spoiler-free):
Note: I received an Advanced Reading Copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Recently, I’ve been on a quest to read more new adult urban fantasy and paranormal romance and step out of my comfort zone. So that is what encouraged me to try Bloodfire Academy. I wanted to try something new, by an author I hadn’t heard of before and this book spoke to me. And honestly, I’m happy I took a chance, because I really did enjoy this book! Here are some reasons why:
Supernatural academy setting
The book takes place at Bloodfire Academy, an elite college for supernaturals. They only accept first borns of members of a secret order who actually rule a lot of the supernatural world. I love school settings, and this one has all the elements for an amazing setting. From the fancy dorm rooms to the intense lessons, magical professors, eerie corridors and creepy forest next door, this setting spoke to my heart.
Politics and mystery
Right from the start we are dropped into the mystery. Our main character, Tansy, is a mage with limited powers, who has been living among humans and attending a human school for all her life. Her parents and brother unfortunately passed in an accident when she was a kid, and she’s been alone (other than an evil uncle) ever since. But just when she’s graduating and getting ready to start a life in the human world, she’s offered a spot at Bloodfire Academy. Apparently, her mother was member. Who knew? Determined to find out more and follow her legacy, Tansy enters the Academy. Now all she needs to do is make it to graduation despite her lack of magic, find out more about her dark family history and figure out why monsters are all of a sudden attacking the school. Fun, right?
Steamy romance scenes
This book is described as a why choose romance, so that means a reverse harem romance right? I’m very new to this, but I’ve been intrigued by the premise of the reverse harem romance. I want to see if a hopeless romantic like me can enjoy something like that and honestly, I’m eager to watch this one play out. At the Academy, Tansy becomes friends (sorta) with two sexy wolf shifters, one rude incubus and a cocky mage. I loved that there are romance scenes and sexy scenes, but it didn’t feel overly smutty. If there is a reverse harem romance aspect, we’re still building up to that and I love that we actually get character growth and slow-burn first. So for now, I’m a fan!
Fast-paced and action-packed
This was just a fun story that can easily be read in a few hours (book one is only 206 pages). There is never a dull moment, and the action flows nicely from scene to scene. I was quite hooked and binged it pretty much in one sitting because I wanted to find out what would happen next. I thought it was the perfect balance of character moments, action moments and romance moments.
Overall, I do recommend this book to anyone who, like me, wants to try some new adult fantasy with a fun and likable heroine, sexy heroes, an eerie academy setting and some steamy scenes. I enjoyed it and will definitely be picking up the second book in the series!

I miss reading about school settings like that. I read a lot of those years ago. Oh nostalgia! The romance sounds very well-written too so that intrigues me as well. I would love to read this book!
School settings are so much fun, I didn’t realize how much I missed them too 🙂
Hope you’ll enjoy this one if you decide to pick it up!
