“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. However, as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.
Today’s selection and book I’m excitedly awaiting is:
Malibu Rising
by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Adult – Contemporary
May 27th 2021 by Hutchinson
Goodreads
From the Sunday Times bestselling author of Daisy Jones & The Six.
A lifetime holding it together.
One party will bring it crashing down.
Malibu: August, 1983. It’s the day of Nina Riva’s annual end-of-summer party, and anticipation is at a fever pitch. Everyone wants to be around the famous Rivas: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer; and their adored baby sister, Kit. Together, the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over-especially as the offspring of the legendary singer, Mick Riva.
The only person not looking forward to the party of the year is Nina herself, who never wanted to be the center of attention, and who has also just been very publicly abandoned by her pro tennis player husband. Oh, and maybe Hud-because it is long past time to confess something to the brother from whom he’s been inseparable since birth.
Jay, on the other hand, is counting the minutes until nightfall, when the girl he can’t stop thinking about promised she’ll be there.
And Kit has a couple secrets of her own-including a guest she invited without consulting anyone.
By midnight the party will be completely out of control. By morning, the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames. But before that first spark in the early hours before dawn, the alcohol will flow, the music will play, and the loves and secrets that shaped this family’s generations will all come bubbling to the surface.
Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them . . . and what they will leave behind.
I’m still behind on the Taylor Jenkins Reid train, but I loved both The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six, so I’m super excited about her next book, Malibu Rising. It sounds like a tense read filled with family secrets and I’m here for it.
I can’t wait for that one either Lindsey!
Hope you’ll enjoy this one!
I will definitely be reading this one – I’ve already preordered it!
Hope you’ll enjoy it!
I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I liked it but didn’t love it. ? So I can’t help but be a little skeptical to pick other titles up from her. Still wanna try though!
I’ve only read two books by her, so I couldn’t really recommend any others you may like more than Evelyn Hugo, but I did also enjoy Daisy Jones and the Six. And Malibu Rising sounds like something else again, so maybe one of her other books could be more for you 🙂
Ooh that looks good. I loved the TJR book I read (Maybe in Another Life).
Happy Wednesday!!
Oh I haven’t read Maybe In Another Life yet, so glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I haven’t tried any of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books yet, but perhaps one day. This new one sounds like it will be a good one! I hope you enjoy it when you read it!
I haven’t read that many TJR yet either (only two), but I loved what I read so I’m eager to try more 🙂
Wow, I didn’t know she had a new book coming out. Thanks for sharing!
I just found out last week as well and I immediately added it to my TBR 😀
oooh I’m so excited about this one!!!! I’ll probably buy both editions, US and UK – lol

Haha, both covers already look stunning indeed!
This was my pick too! I’m so excited!
Yes! So looking forward to this one!
I cannot wait for this book! I’m frustrated every time I look at it on NG and it’s still “Wish for It”. I want to be able to at least request it!
Indeed, hope it’ll be available for request soon!
