Monthly Wrap Up

September 2022: The Month of Angels and Demons and Druids and SO MUCH MUSIC!

2022 Wrap up - September

Hi everybody, and welcome to my September wrap up!

First of all, happy October everyone! October is by far my favorite month of the year, there’s something so magical about spooky season, fall weather and the leaves changing colors…

But for now, let’s wrap up September! September was… the month before October. Honestly, it’s been a bit of a blur because it’s been busy at work and I’ve been tired a lot. But my reading was okay, my TV watching was okay and the music releases this month have been amazing! So there’s that. Let’s get into my wrap up:

What I Read

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen

I’m not even sure how I can begin to describe The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. It’s a romance. It’s a fantasy with zombie-like creatures. It is super sweet. It is kinda macabre. It’s cozy and whimsical and yet also gory at times. It’s feel-good but also may have you bawling a bit. Not many stories could pull of this many different vibes and yet still make so much sense. Basically, it’s one of a kind. I adored it!

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Boy, this was a looong book. I enjoyed it overall, but I also struggled with the length a bit. I’m glad I finally read this classic fantasy and I still want to read the rest of the trilogy, but I may take a break before I start that one. Maybe I need to try the TV show and that’ll work better for me?

The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas

This was an adorable read – I loved it so much I finished it in a few days. Definitely recommend if you love friends to lovers, forced proximity, secret crushes or just a hero that is absolute sunshine!

Rating: 4 stars

The Unbreakable Bladesong Druid by Annette Marie

This was the fourth and final installment in the Guild Codex: Unveiled series and the ending of Saber and Zak’s story. This finale did not at all go how I expected in any way, but it was definitely an action-packed, emotional rollercoaster ride.

Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

I picked this up because I recently read and loved Every Summer After by Carley Fortune and many people compared it to Love and Other Words as the premise was very similar: a second-chance-romance between childhood friends-to-lovers. And they were right, the premise is very similar but it was still different enough for me to enjoy it.

What I Listened To

There were so many great releases this month, I had trouble selecting only a few songs to highlight!

Oneus – Same Scent

One of my fave kpop bands had a comeback and I love it so much. Same Scent is such a catchy, sensual song and the choreo is so hypnotizing with the water.

One Ok Rock – Prove

One Ok Rock released a new album this month and that has been on repeat pretty much all day, every day. One of my favorite songs of the album is Prove.

BlackPink – Tally

BlackPink also released a new album this month and I love it a lot. I have to admit I like their singles (Pink Venom and Shut Down) the least of all the songs on their album though… One of my favorites from the album is Tally.

Louis Tomlinson – Bigger Than Me

I’ve been loving Louis Tomlinson’s newest release as well and am already super excited for the album!

Honorable mentions: Sleeping With Sirens’ Complete Collapse, Pierce the Veil’s Pass the Nirvana, Rina Sawayama’s Hurricanes, and OF COURSE Paramore’s new This Is Why (2007 me is so excited – only reason it’s not up higher is because it just released 2 days ago)

What I Watched

Good Omens (season 1)

I know I’m very late to the party, but better late than never right? So glad I finally got to watch this show, now I know what all the hype was about and I definitely think it was worth it all! Now, I do have to admit I haven’t read the book yet, so if you’ve read the book, should I still read it if I’ve already watched the show?

Where the Crawdads Sing

I also got to watch the movie adaptation of Where the Crawdads sing and I was quite impressed! I think the adaptation stayed very true to the original and the atmosphere and acting performances were all spot-on.

Life Update

Well, after a 3-week holiday in August I have to admit I’ve been struggling to get back into the work rhythm this month. Traffic has also been super busy, and I can get so frustrated with all that lost time. There’s also so little time left in the evenings, so I’m getting behind on my reading and blogging again, which ALSO frustrates me. And then I’ve been so tired from the long days, that I even ran through a red light this month. Thankfully it was really early so hardly any other cars were out or could hit me, nor did I get a fine, BUT it scared me a lot that I just didn’t seem to process that the light was red until I was already driving past… Hoping to catch up on sleep and rest soon and that that scary loss of focus won’t happen again.

Something else: I’ve been thinking about getting a Kindle e-reader. For the last 5 or so years, I’ve been using the Kindle app on my phone, meaning I’ve been reading all my ebooks on my phone. As you can imagine, that’s not the best thing I could do for my eyes and I’m starting to feel it… so I’ve been wanting to get a Kindle e-reader so I can do most of my reading there, and have all books I already purchased available on there too, and so I can still read on my phone if and when I choose to. So to those of you who use the Kindle e-reader already, what are your thoughts? Which version do you have and are you happy with it? Do we really need a bigger memory to store more book, or is the 8GB version more than enough? This indecisive reader thanks you for your input 🙂

Other than that:

Things that made me happy this month:

  • Celebrated our 7-year wedding anniversary with my husband. We celebrated by having a fancy dinner, which was delicious!
  • Had some family time to celebrate a few birthdays.
  • I won a give-away over at ShootingStarsMag! Thanks again, Lauren!
  • A new Paramore song! OMG I’m so happy they’re releasing new music!
  • Good music, good books and good TV!
  • WE ARE FINALLY IN FALL!!!

THINGS I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

  • SO MUCH NEW MUSIC TO LOOK FORWARD TO: my two absolute favorite k-pop bands have a comeback this month: Stray Kids and Dreamcatcher, AND there’s new music by The Rose, Onewe and Mamamoo to look forward to AND a new album by Sleeping With Sirens and Taylor Swift!!
  • Hocus Pocus 2! (I know it technically released still in September, but I haven’t watched it yet)
  • SPOOKY SEASON + HALLOWEEN (also my birthday… but I’m more excited about Halloween!)

How was your September? What did you read? What did you listen to and what did you watch? What are you looking forward to in October?

Lindsey xoxo

  1. Ugh, going back to work after a long break is the worst! I really do not miss commuting to work, all those hours wasted in the car. Happy anniversary to you and your hubby! It’s nice to have a quiet night at home to celebrate.

    1. Commuting to work can be so frustrating indeed. Even with an audiobook, it still feels like so much time wasted. It’s great that you can continue to work from home, and I hope you’ll get to do that for as long as you want to!
      Thanks so much!
