Hi everybody! We are officially in the second half of the year so once again it’s the perfect time for the Mid Year Book Freakout Tag! This tag is created by ReadLikeWildfire and Ely Jayne

At this moment, I’ve read 34 books of my 2024 goal of 50. Not too bad! And while most were just regular 3 to 4-star “good but not amazing’ books, there were a few 5-star absolutely amazing favorites too.

That said, let’s just get started with this bookish freakout!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2024.

I’ve loved every Emily Henry story I’ve read so far, but I feel like Funny Story was written just for me 🙂

Funny Story by Emily Henry

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2024.

Mage Assassins & Other Misfits made me so happy to see these characters again and to be able to dive back into this world.

Mage Assassins and Other Misfits by Annette Marie and Rob Jacobsen

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

Can’t wait to dive into this one!

A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

I’m super excited to return to Inglewild for Charlie and Nova’s story!

Business Casual by B.K. Borison

5. Biggest disappointment.

The potential was so big and it started off so strong but then there was a whole lot of inner monologue and very little actually happening to move the plot forward.

A Fate Inked In Blood by Danielle L. Jensen

6. Biggest surprise.

I never thought I’d fall in love with a dark romance between two serial killers, but here we are! This was surprisingly quirky and hilarious.

Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

The Divine Rivals duology was my first Rebecca Ross read, but it won’t be my last!

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

8. Newest fictional crush.

Prince Kai had me swooning, probably due to his witty banter and the genius narration for the audiobook.

Powerless by Lauren Roberts

9. Newest favourite character.

Definitely overlapping a bit with question 8, but Justin from Just for the Summer is the epitome of the perfect book boyfriend. He is adorable and funny and thoughtful and add to that the way he takes care of his family and how open he is about his feelings? Swoon.

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez

10. Book that made you cry.

I did a re-read of The Assassin’s Blade, and yep I sobbed like a baby at that part. (Still need to continue my re-read of the series though)

The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas

11. Book that made you happy.

This novella made me so happy that I’m sad it’s only a novella and not a full-length novel.

The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

I don’t know if it technically counts because I haven’t actually read the book so I can’t judge if it’s a good adaptation, but I do know I loved this movie and Anne Hathaway is a goddess.

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year.

I’m back in a review slump so I haven’t written many actual reviews this year, but I always love the ones where I just rave and rave and rave…

Review - Funny Story

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

I haven’t read this one yet, but I really like the art style of the cover!

Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-Reum

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

So many, but here are some upcoming releases I want to read:

Play Along by Liz Tomforde Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune The Songbird and the Heart of Stone by Carissa Broadbent A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna

I Tag You!
What are some of your favorites this year so far? And your most anticipated reads for the rest of the year?

  1. The Assassin’s Blade is a tough one to read, especially thát part. *sobs*

    1. It’s definitely the hardest book in the series to read, even if the rest of the books also have some very sobworthy moments in them…

  2. Miles from Funny Story is my new fictional crush!

    1. Ahh he’s such a good answer for that question indeed!

  3. I really need to read more by Abby Jimenez. I’ve only read one so far. And I will definitely be watching The Idea of You soon!

    1. Hope you’ll love The Idea of You!

  4. I’ve had a lot of 3-4 star reads, too, this year. I’m glad you’ve had some standouts, though! I’ve been loving Abby Jimenez’s books!

    1. 3-4 star reads aren’t that bad, it’s just that I wish they could all be 5-star reads 🙂

  5. I’ve seen Butcher & Blackbird popping up in unexpected places, and I just might have to bite! Really disappointing to hear about A Fate Inked in Blood, though. 🙁

    1. Hope you’ll love Butcher & Blackbird if you decide to give it a try! Yes, I felt so disappointed reading A Fate Inked In Blood. I’m doubting whether or not I still want to read the sequel…

  6. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader says:

I need to do that tag too! And I loved Funny Story!

    1. Yay for Funny Story! And curious to see your answers on this tag, Sophie!

  8. Yes!I also really need/want to read Witch’s Guide and Somewhere Beyond the Sea before the year is over.

    1. Hope we’ll both get to them before the end of the year 🙂
