20241001 10 Hyped Books I Read Recently & Whether Or Not I Thought They Were Worth The Hype

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday! Today I’m talking about books I read because of the hype and whether or not I thought they were worth it.

Now, two notes before we get into this list:

  • I didn’t take a specific list of hyped books according to detailed specifications, I just went with ones I read because I saw them all over social media and around the blogging community. So these felt hyped to me, but they may not be that hyped to you.
  • As always, my opinions are my own and we can all like different things, so please don’t feel bad if I dislike a book you loved.

With that said, let’s go 🙂

Consider Me by Becka Mack

Consider Me by Becka Mack

Worth the hype? No.

Too long and not a convincing enough romance.

The Road of Bones by Demi Winters

The Road of Bones by Demi Winters

Worth the hype? YES!!!

This Norse mythology inspired romance singlehandedly revived my love of romantasy. And book two is even better!

Quicksilver by Callie Hart

Quicksilver by Callie Hart

Worth the hype? Mayybe.

The writing and pacing could use some work. But I was hooked from start to end.

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson

Worth the hype? Yes.

An intriguing YA mystery with a great main character (but dog lovers beware!)

Powerless by Lauren Roberts

Powerless by Lauren Roberts

Worth the hype? Mayybe.

Don’t read this for the worldbuilding, which is quite flawed. But the romance? *chef’s kiss*

Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

Worth the hype? Yes.

This serial killer romance was just the right kind of weird and hilarious, but not too scary for me.

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

Worth the hype? Yes.

A beautiful pen pal, rivals to lovers romance that was just exquisitely written.

A Fate Inked In Blood by Danielle L. Jensen

A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen

Worth the hype? No.

The idea of this Norse mythology inspired fantasy romance was great, but I felt this was sooo slow, the internal monologues dragged on, the plot twists were predictable and I also didn’t really like Freya, nor any of the other characters.

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Worth the hype? Yes.

I was hooked from page one to the very end, I loved the characters, the plot and the romance. And the dragons were just amazing.

  1. Holly’s book was interesting and fun! I should read the next book too because one must discover what comes next in Pip’s world. 🙂

    1. I still need to read the next book too!

  2. It’s a good thing you said dog lovers beware with A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder. It’s my only trigger. I really don’t want to read dog’s (or any animal) getting hurt or dying. Also still have to read Divine Rivals. But I really want to!

    1. Yes, that was the worst thing about AGGGTM by far. I was wondering why I’ve never seen any review mention that part!

  3. Fourth Wing has been a very popular pick this week!

    1. It’s definitely very hyped!

  4. Haha, I haven’t read any of these! I’ve seen Fourth Wing everywhere, but it doesn’t really sound like my thing.

    1. It’s good to know what you like, just because a book is hyped doesn’t mean it has to be your thing 🙂

Nooo! I just began Quicksilver because of the hype but now…

    1. I still enjoyed it, even if I had some issues with it, so I hope you’ll still love it!

  6. Honestly, I wasn’t sure which hyped books to pick this week either. Different social circles online can talk about totally different titles!

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

    1. So true about different social circles having a different definition of hyped books!

  7. I was a little disappointed with A Fate Inked in Blood. She has some great books so I was expecting so much more. Great list though!!

    1. A Fate Inked In Blood was indeed a disappointment, unfortunately!

  8. A Fate Inked in Blood was a DNF for me. Butcher & Blackbird is still on my TBR as well as Quicksilver, But I’ve read most of your picks.

    1. I really enjoyed it, hope you will too if you decide to give it a try!

  10. I’ve read Butcher and Blackbird and Fourth Wing, and I also enjoyed them. Most of the others I haven’t even heard of, but maybe I just wasn’t in the right spaces. I hope you have a great week.

    1. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Butcher and Blackbird and Fourth Wing!

  11. I love the hyped explanation because it really has to be supercharge hype for me to even know it exists. I stick with a pretty narrow set of books I’ll read.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on my list!

    1. Yes, hyped books definitely depend from person to person!

  12. A GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER is the only book I’ve read from your list and, I agree, it was totally worth the read. I loved it!

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
