Monthly Wrap Up

September 2024: The Month My Favorite Band Came Back After 7 Years And It Took Over My Entire Month

September 2024: Monthly Wrap Up

Hi everybody, first of all, HAPPY OCTOBER AKA THE BEST MONTH OF THE YEAR! And also, welcome to my September wrap up! While this month I’ve read the least amount of books per month IN YEARS (for me), I guess sometimes that’s just the way it goes. Luckily, something happened in music land that kept my mind entertained the entire month! I am definitely hoping to read more in October though, so we’ll see. For now, let’s wrap up September!

What I Read

Consider Me by Becka Mack

This sports romance, about a playboy hockey star who turns over a new leaf when he falls head over heels for Olivia, who wants nothing to with him and his playboy reputation, has been hyped all over so I decided to give it a try… with mixed feelings.

While I loved Carter, I didn’t feel the romance. It’s love at first sight for him and while Olivia wasn’t a bad character, her personality also wasn’t very pronounced other than being short and sassy. So I didn’t get why it was all love at first sight. And then the book also felt overly long and while I normally love some cozy domestic scenes, this one felt like it had too many of them and I got bored of them. Also not a fan of the third act drama.

But I loved the secondary characters so I am wondering whether it’s a good idea for me to read the next books in the series…

From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata (Re-Read)

I’ve been re-reading audiobooks this past summer (as a way to save up some credits) and my latest re-read is this slow-burn ice skating romance. I recently also re-read Dear Aaron (my all-time favorite) and this features the same family so it was a good way for me to stay with these characters just a little bit longer.

I still love From Lukov With Love so much and I do love Mariana Zapata’s slow-burn romances, though I have to admit this one still feels a little too slow-burn for me. Maybe because I read two slow-burns after each other? Next time, I’ll try to switch it up more 🙂

What I Listened To

As I mentioned in the intro and title, something happened in music land that kind of took over my head for most of September: my favorite band had an unexpected comeback after 7 years!

Linkin Park – The Emptiness Machine

I will always miss Chester. He is Linkin Park too and always will be. But that said, I am happy the band decided to start a new chapter with a new female singer, Emily Armstrong. I absolutely LOVE this new song, I am happy to see the band happy about being able to perform again, and I am so looking forward to the new album! (And also very much hoping for a tour date in Belgium in 2025!)

What I Watched

While my reading took a bit of a hit this month, I still did alright when it came to TV shows:

Kaos (Season 1)

I’m all about Greek mythology retelling so when I saw this new show on Netflix starring Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, I knew I had to try it. And I’m glad I did, because I loved this show! Well, maybe not the final episode because too much was left open and still a bit rushed despite being left so open. But the rest of series was genius! I especially loved the new take on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. And I’m a fan of Dionysus too.

Emily in Paris Season 4 (Part 2)

As I said last month for part 1, I love this show because it’s not taking itself too seriously. It’s just a silly good time and I am here for it. And part 2 takes place in Rome for a few episodes so that was a fun change of location. I have to say, I’ve seen a lot of Marcello fans out there and while I do love him, I also think it’s pretty obvious that Emily and Gabriel are still endgame. And though Gabriel was definitely not at his best this season (I mean, his hair style pretty much made that obvious), I have faith he’ll redeem himself next season.

Other

I’ve watched 1 or 2 episodes of a few other shows this month, so I’ll probably highlight them next month, but so far I think all of them have new favorite potential: Nobody Wants This, Agatha All Along and Love Next Door.

Life Update

Honestly, September has been a blur. The weeks just kind of sped by. I mostly worked during the day, tried to read or watch a bit of TV at night but then fell asleep on the sofa. And hey, that’s okay, some months are just filler episodes I guess 🙂 But I have high hopes for a fun October!

THINGS THAT MADE ME HAPPY THIS MONTH:

  • We had a neighborhood street get-together one Sunday which was a fun opportunity to have a chat with our neighbors.
  • Lots of baking (mostly by my husband) and tasting (mostly by me).
  • My husband and I celebrated our 9 year wedding anniversary <3
  • We went to the movies and watched Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Halloween season has officially started!
  • UMM, MY FAVORITE BAND HAD A COMEBACK AFTER 7 YEARS!

THINGS I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

  • It’s October and I’m ready for the Halloween season!!
  • Chrissy Costanza is releasing her first full solo album and I’m so excited for that.
  • I have a lunch date with friends planned.
  • My husband and I are thinking about taking up archery as a hobby and we have a first try-out session this month. (Of course I’m going to pretend I’m the main character in a fantasy series.)
  • My birthday (on Halloween)! Did I mention I’m excited about Halloween?

How was your September? What did you read? What did you listen to and what did you watch? What are you looking forward to in October?

Lindsey xoxo

  1. So happy to finally hear someone being positive about Emily being the new singer for Linkin Park – feel like I’ve just been seeing loads of hate for her!!! Obviously Chester could never be replaced, but I think this new era could also be quite fun and the new songs *slap* 😂

    Great post!! 😊

    1. Yes, I’m glad to see you agree too! I’ll always miss Chest but I’m also definitely looking forward to this new era 🙂

  2. Ha, I’ve never thought to describe a month as a “filler month,” but that is perfect! Some months are just more chill and low key.

    1. So true, not all months need to be action-packed and full of adventures 🙂

  3. Congrats on nine years together! And happy spooky month to you!

I got a lot of reading done over here, mostly because I finally finished up my dissertation end of August. So I had a month free to just read whatever I felt like! It was quite nice.

    1. Thanks so much! I’m glad you got a lot of reading done, congrats on finishing your dissertation!

  4. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader says:

I love Linkin Park and was devastated by Chester’s death. I am sceptical about the new album though yet curious at the same time!

    1. Chester’s death was devastating indeed and he’ll be missed forever. But I do hope we’ll end up loving the new album!

  5. I really enjoyed Kaos. I have yet to watch Nobody Wants This and I already now I will love it. Kristen Bell and Adam Broody are great. I just read my first Mariana Zapata book – All Rhodes Lead Here and loved it. Happy Anniversary.

    1. Glad to hear you enjoyed Kaos too! I’m a few episodes into Nobody Wants This and I’m loving it so far. So glad to hear you love All Rhodes Lead Here, I loved that one too. Thanks!
