Things Characters Have Said In Recent Reads That Stuck (For Miscellaneous Reasons)

20250304 Things Characters Have Said

Hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hi everybody, and welcome to a new Top Ten Tuesday! Today’s topic is ‘things characters have said’ so I went for a collection of random quotes from recent books that stuck with me. Whether because they’re romantic, or relatable, or just powerful. Here we go!

Kingdom of Claw by Demi Winters

“You see blundering. I see progress. There is beauty to behold in the in between.”
Demi Winters, Kingdom of Claw

Reckless by Lauren Roberts

“I may be a monster, but if you cut me, I’ll bleed. And if you break my heart, Pae, you’ll break me. So, if even a sliver of your soul longs for mine, I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to deserve it.”
Lauren Roberts, Reckless

The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst

“It wasn’t that she didn’t like people. It was that she liked books more. They didn’t fuss or judge or mock or reject. They invited you in, fluffed up the pillows on the couch, offered you tea and toast, and shared their hearts with no expectation that you’d do anything more than absorb what they had to give.”
Sarah Beth Durst, The Spellshop

Lights Out by Navessa Allen

“I didn’t want him morally grey. I wanted someone with a soul as black as night. Someone who would burn the world down for me and not lose a single minute of sleep over it.”
Navessa Allen, Lights Out

Children of Fallen Gods by Carissa Broadbent

“It is a privilege to do nothing, Max. So many people do not have that gift.”
Carissa Broadbent, Children of Fallen Gods

Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros

“I live by you. When have I ever given a fuck about the Codex or the Code of Conduct?” He cradles my face and leans down, resting his forehead against mine. “I am yours and you are mine, and there’s no law or rule in this world or the next that will change that.”
Rebecca Yarros, Onyx Storm

First Time Caller by B.K. Borison

“But what’s wrong with being a romantic? I can be a confident, independent woman and still want someone to hold my hand. To ask about my day. It’s a good thing to want passion and excitement and care. Attention and affection. I don’t want to settle for anything less than that.”
B.K. Borison, First Time Caller

Deep End

“I’m afraid of the unpredictability of existing. I’m afraid of not being able to control the direction of my life. I’m afraid that no matter how much I plan, I won’t be able to avoid hurtful and sad things. But above all…” I take a deep breath and laugh softly, because what I’m about to say is ridiculous, even if it’s true. Even if it’s me. “Mostly, I’m afraid of attempting something and not being perfect at it.”
Ali Hazelwood, Deep End
